The Entire Situation is New to Us

10. September 2015. Honestly speaking, nobody of us did expect refugees from the Near and Middle East and from Africa coming to Bruchsal in such huge numbers, in such a short time. Please wait patiently, we can handle this - as Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel said, a couple of days ago.

Black, Brown and Beige - the German Basic Law

Our law - the Basic Law or Grundgesetz - provides a good protection to refugees seeking a safe habour (infact, this special law seems to be unparalleled around the world). On the other hand, however, we distinguish between displaced persons from safe countries of origin and refugees from countries at war. Only the latter ones may receive the asylum status.

You may wish to reed the German Basic Law in English (Grundgesetz in Englisch) as provided by the German Federal Government. Outstanding features of the German Basic Law are:

All humans are born free and have the same principal rights. The dignity of man is inviolable. To respect and protect it shall be the duty of all public authority (Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar. Sie zu achten und zu schützen ist Verpflichtung aller staatlichen Gewalt). In other words - whatever your skin colour may be, be it black, brown or beige, before the law all humans are equal. We have equal rights for men and women. Arranged marriages are unlawful in Germany and will be prosecuted. Children have rights too.

Our state distinguishes clearly between state authorities and religion. The Federal Republic of Germany is based on the separation of powers. The Islamic law (the Sharia) is not permitted in Germany. We cherish the German freedom of the press and the freedom of demonstration, even the protest marchs. That’s why we have to tolerate actually unfriendly demonstrations, as long as they are democratic and lawful.

Please follow our legal guidelines, they might be quite different to your local law at home. And please remember, Germans are friendly (at least should be) but they are’nt stupid.

Listen to Jaabar

23. Oktober 2015. Jaafar Abdul Karim | Insight Germany. Jaafar is Arabic and German. He works for Deutsche Welle and he has more then 4 millions of viewers in Egypt every week.

The German journalist with Arabic roots goes into the streets. He speaks with radical followers of Pegida and with young refugees. Jafaars Videoblog #3: “Sie lügen nur, hauen Sie ab. Wir sind das Volk!” (You’re lying. Fuck off. We are the people!)
